In the midst of his drive for national unification movement and peace campaigns, Kim Koo was assassinated by second lieutenant An Du-Hwi at Gyeonggyojang, his residence, on June 26, 1949. Judging by disclosed documents(Fact-finding report on the assassination of Kim Koo adopted by the National Assembly in 1995), the military top commanding posts, Syngman Rhee’s regime were behind the assassination.
